Waterpark Simulator research points are the metaprogression currency you spend at the Research Table between days. Unlocks include movement tools, trash solutions, hiring tiers, lifeguard coverage, maintenance automation, slide parts, and late theme branches like Museum, Aztec, Sea, and Pirate decor. Points come from doing park work — tickets, mops, rescues, repairs — not from watching guests wander. Critically, your manual actions earn more research per chore than staff automation in the early and mid game, so hiring too fast can slow unlock pace even while it frees your hands. Research is activity-based. Standing at the gate selling tickets generates points. Finishing a mop stroke on a splash zone generates points. Throwing a life ring and completing a rescue generates points. Hammering a broken slide piece back into service generates points. Idling while guests swim does not. If your point income feels flat, you are not doing enough distinct chore types during open hours — you are building during peak when you should be closing and researching.

The fastest research farms stack many short actions across ticket sales, cleaning, and rescues in one open period. One player sprinting only build mode all day earns fewer points than a mixed loop — this is intentional. CayPlay rewards operators who run the full park sim, not only architects.
In multiplayer, host-owned points mean the host should perform research-heavy chores until the group agrees to spend — guests helping gate and pools accelerate earn rate for everyone when the host closes at the table.
The Research Table is the between-day menu where you commit points. Rows group into tools (Floor Tool, expanded inventory), operations (bins, chlorine upgrades), hiring tiers, ride parts, and cosmetic theme branches. You cannot refund research — every click is permanent on that save slot, including separate Beach map files.

If a row improves how fast you walk, mop, pick trash, or sell tickets, it outranks spray paint and bench variants until your cleaning guide loop survives peak without closing early three days in a row.
Custom slides need parts unlocked on the table, but parts before bin upgrades multiply mess without income to hire Janitors. Expand ride variety only when one exit path stays clean for a full peak.
Use this order on standard main-lot saves unless co-op role splits let you skip a bottleneck intentionally. Adjust when a specific pain point — drownings, gate lines, ride breakdowns — forces a branch early.
| Priority | Unlock | Why now |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Floor Tool | Paths define mop routes; without it you walk inefficient loops |
| 2 | Better bins / pocket capacity | Less backtracking on trash during splash peaks |
| 3 | Hiring Level 1 | Unlocks Cashier — gate stops eating 100% of your day |
| 4 | Hiring Level 2 | Unlocks Vendor and Janitor — food and pools automate baseline chores |
| 5 | Lifeguard research | Required before deep pools and diving boards go live |
| 6 | Maintenance tier | Ride breakdowns scale with guest count and custom slide length |
| 7 | Security / Restocker | Bracelet cheaters and multi-vendor restock distance |
| 8 | Mascot | Happiness polish for Diamond pushes — not an early fix |
Research unlocks availability; wages still come from daily cash flow. Hiring Level 1 opens Cashier. Hiring Level 2 opens Vendor and Janitor. Later tiers add Maintenance, Lifeguard, Security, Mascot, and Restocker. You can only assign roles the table has unlocked — hiring before the tier is a common waste of menu time.
Cashier covers ticket booth throughput. Vendor runs food stalls so you stop sprinting hot dogs during peak. Janitor mops, scoops, and empties bins inside assigned zones. Maintenance hammers rides on patrol. Lifeguard responds to drownings in covered water. Security ejects bracelet cheaters. Restocker refills shelves across distant vendors. Mascot boosts guest mood for rating pushes. Full zone rules live on the staff guide.
Our siteData tracks 6 baseline staff entries; 1.0 ships eight hireable roles when you include Vendor, Janitor, and Restocker naming from the Research Table.
Staff automation converts chores into wages and NPC pathing — convenient, but lower research per action while you still pay daily salary. Early hiring should solve a bottleneck you measured (gate over thirty percent of your day, pools dirty every peak), not replace research farming entirely.
| If your problem is… | Buy research… | Delay… |
|---|---|---|
| Gate lines block everything | Hiring Level 1 + Cashier | Museum themes |
| Pools brown despite mopping | Janitor tier + bin upgrades | New slide loops |
| Drownings during peak | Lifeguard | Deeper custom drops |
| Rides break mid-rush | Maintenance | Cosmetic spray packs |
| Vendors run dry across map | Restocker | Mascot |
Museum research gates Aztec, Sea, and Pirate decorative branches CayPlay highlighted in 1.0 marketing. These rows do not fix poop, gate lines, or drownings. Buy them when your beginner guide loop is boring — one peak clears with Cashier and Janitor, loans are under control per the money guide, and you are pushing Diamond rating rather than escaping one-star hell.
1.0 added Museum side tasks on some maps. They are content goals, not substitutes for Research Table throughput. Finish stability research before you treat Museum as the main progression track.
