Waterpark Simulator clean pool failures — cloudy water, floating waste, mud tracks, overflowing bins — are the number-one reason new parks stall at one star while owners keep buying slide pieces. Cleaning is first-person work: mop for wet concrete, chlorine for water quality, scoop for solid pool waste, trash picker and bins for litter, plus late tools like the water cannon once research unlocks them. Staff Janitors automate loops only after Hiring Level 2 and sensible zones from the staff guide. Verified August 16, 2026 · Steam.

Pools revert because guests are messy systems: they splash mud from unmopped concrete, miss bins, trigger pool poop events, and swim in water whose chlorine you let deplete during build binges. Dirty water is rarely a single bug — it is a broken chain (bin placement, mop timing, scoop order, or Janitor zone gaps). Fix the chain before you demo the pool.

Wet spots near exits become mud when guests walk them. Mud tracks into shallow end tiles. Cloudy water lowers cleanliness stars. Low stars reduce guest spend. Reduced spend limits research on better bins. Owners then build more slides without exit infrastructure, which accelerates the loop. Break it at trash plus mop, not at another spiral slide.
Adding a second splash zone before Janitor research or co-op assignment doubles event frequency while you still sell tickets solo. It feels like "pools break overnight" — it is coverage math. Either delay pool two or pre-draw Janitor zones that include both exits before open.
Chlorine is consumable headroom, not a one-time unlock. Heavy guest counts during peak drain effective cleanliness unless you re-dose between waves. Stocking chlorine only at day start fails on hour three of the same in-game day.
Solid waste in water needs the scoop before chemicals help. Trash on decks needs the picker and a bin within a few steps — guests do not walk to the entrance to throw cups away. Poop events are timed pressure: scoop immediately, mop the surrounding splash, empty the bin if the scoop filled it, then chlorine if water cloudiness remains.
If you repeatedly sprint from slide four to the only bin near the gate, the fix is architecture — move bins, shorten paths with Floor Tool research, or hire Janitor — not faster sprinting. The beginner guide gate path should intersect every exit bin on your morning walkthrough.
They solve different layers. Using chlorine on a puddle or mopping cloudy water wastes supplies and feels like the game is broken. Match tool to complaint class every time.

| Problem you see | Tool to use | Common mistake |
|---|---|---|
| Wet concrete near exits | Mop | Dosing chlorine on the deck |
| Cloudy or greenish pool water | Chlorine | Scooping when no solid waste is present |
| Poop or floaters in pool | Scoop first, then chlorine | Chlorine only — floaters remain |
| Litter on walkways | Trash picker → bin | Mopping cups and wrappers |
| Wide rinse after big events | Water cannon (late research) | Hammering the pool — wrong tool entirely |
Peak poop plus splash plus litter is one sequence: scoop solids, mop adjacent wet tiles, picker into bin, chlorine if water still reads dirty, empty bin if full. Skipping a step leaves the next tool ineffective and costs rating during the same guest wave.
Every splash zone exports water to concrete. Unmopped puddles attract foot traffic, which turns them into mud routes back into shallow pool tiles. Mopping is not cosmetic — it is upstream pool maintenance. During peak, mop exits between scoop events if you must choose; mud tracks hurt longer than a single missed litter cup.
Research Floor Tool paths so your gate-to-pool route hits every exit without backtracking. Diagonal shortcuts through unmaintained grass often cost more time than they save. Path planning is cleaning research — see the research guide.
Star rating bundles cleanliness with fun, food, safety, and amenities. Fun rides and cute benches cannot compensate for brown water — the cleanliness bucket caps progress. When satisfaction dips during peak, check cleanliness first, gate second, fun third.
Guests complain about specific failures: dirty water, full bins, broken rides, drownings. Fix the class that matches the complaint icon before you buy another palm tree. Diamond rating pushes from the achievements list assume stable cleanliness long before 71 milestones complete.
If poop spawns while you are in build mode, close build and scoop — rating loss during live peaks exceeds whatever slide piece you would have placed. Schedule construction between ticket waves or after Janitor hire.
Run this loop between rush periods until it becomes muscle memory. Adjust timing when Janitors absorb subsets, but keep a human spot-check until zones cover every new exit.
Hire Janitor when you cannot complete one full park cleaning loop between poop events — usually when two splash zones operate without a dedicated co-op pool runner. Before that threshold, manual cleaning still earns more research points per action than NPC mops, per the research guide. After hire, redraw zones every expansion; idle Janitors are almost always zone gaps, not broken AI.
In multiplayer, assign player two as pool runner through the first Janitor hire. Overlap human and Janitor on the same exit only during teaching sessions — duplicate effort hides bad zones.
Site roster documents 6 baseline roles; Janitor is the cleaning role in the eight-hire 1.0 set alongside Vendor and Restocker.

Scoop solid waste first; chlorine treats water quality after floaters are gone.
Buy and restock chlorine from Caymart / park supply paths, then keep bottles on your ticket-booth loop so dosing is never a long walk during peak. It is a consumable — not a one-time Research unlock.
Hire a Janitor after Hiring Level 2 research, then zone them over dirty decks and pool edges — see the staff guide.
Re-zone to include new slide exits and bins — see staff guide.

Beach map separate save — same tools, new layout discipline.
